The Rutherglen Motor Inn is located 1km west of the PO and is a former goldmining town but is best known as the centre of Victoria's wine-producing district. Rutherglen is located just 10 km from the Murray River on the state border. The Rutherglen area retains a number of goldmining remnants, including the Rose of Sharon Museum which is now a walk-through underground museum. The main street has old timber buildings, verandah-fronted pubs, antique shops, bric-a-brac shops, and tearooms. Things to do and see are wineries (home of Muscat), golf, Murray River, scenic tours, or olive tasting.
